Malpe Beach · Udupi · Karnataka
Where the tide
writes the itinerary
A small shoreline retreat built in laterite stone and coconut timber, five minutes from Malpe jetty — bed by the Arabian Sea, breakfast by Tulunadu tradition.
The Shanty story
A house on the coast, run the way Tulunadu homes always have
Beach at Shanty began as a family shack on the Malpe shoreline and grew, plank by plank, into a small retreat that still keeps its original spirit: sea-facing verandahs, slow mornings, and a kitchen that cooks the way the coast has cooked for generations.
Every room looks out toward the water or the palm canopy. Interiors lean on local materials — laterite stone, coconut wood, handloom linen — rather than imported polish, so the place feels like Udupi, not like anywhere else with a beach.
