Sri Krishna Matha
A historic, centuries-old temple at the heart of Udupi and the birthplace of the legendary Udupi cuisine.
The Experience
Spiritual heritage & legendary cuisine
Founded in the 13th century by the Vaishnavite saint Shri Madhvacharya, the Udupi Sri Krishna Matha is renowned for its unique tradition: Lord Krishna is worshipped through a silver-plated window with nine holes (the Navagraha Kindi). The temple complex is a living, breathing center of devotion, humming with chants, bells, and the aroma of incense.
Beyond its spiritual significance, the Matha is the epicenter of Udupi cuisine. The temple feeds thousands of devotees daily with simple, divine vegetarian food. A visit here offers a glimpse into the region's deep cultural roots and culinary mastery.
