Where the tide
writes the itinerary

The Shanty story

A house on the coast, run the way Tulunadu homes always have

Beach at Shanty began as a family shack on the Malpe shoreline and grew, plank by plank, into a small retreat that still keeps its original spirit: sea-facing verandahs, slow mornings, and a kitchen that cooks the way the coast has cooked for generations.

Every room looks out toward the water or the palm canopy. Interiors lean on local materials — laterite stone, coconut wood, handloom linen — rather than imported polish, so the place feels like Udupi, not like anywhere else with a beach.

Beyond the beach

Malpe sits inside Tulunadu — one of India's most distinct living cultures

Spirit worship, buffalo races, mask dances, and a cuisine built entirely around rice, coconut, and the day's catch — the coast around Udupi has its own language, its own gods, and its own table. We help guests meet all three.
