Coastal View
Kaup Lighthouse
A towering beacon on a rocky headland, offering stunning coastal views and 360-degree vistas of the Arabian Sea.
The Experience
A guiding light since 1901
Built by the British in 1901, the Kaup (Kapu) Lighthouse stands 27 meters tall on a rocky outcropping along the beach. It continues to guide ships today, but for visitors, it serves as the ultimate vantage point along the Udupi coastline.
The climb up the steep, spiraling staircase is a small adventure of its own. Once at the balcony, you are rewarded with sweeping, uninterrupted views of the coastline, the crashing waves against the rocks below, and the dense palm groves backing the beach. It's highly recommended to time your visit with the sunset.
⚠ Good to Know
- Lighthouse is closed on Fridays and national holidays
- Entry is limited — arrive by 4 PM to secure a spot
- Steep spiral staircase — not suitable for young children or elderly
- Rocks at the base are slippery during high tide
